I purchased a miniDV camera recently (a really nice Canon Z500 at a very cheap price)
hoping that I could use it in conjunction with Cycling 74's Jitter and an M-Audio Trigger Finger
Midi Controller to do real time manipulation of video while I am doing my solo looping shows.
I may have made a mistake in it's ability to do real time video feeds into a computer.
What experience does anyone have with USB webcams/ Cell phones with USB connectors, Digital Cameras
that double as webcams or anyother kind of real time video that one can use as input into a
G4 Mac (or PC for that matter)?
Specifically, are there any cams out there that are particularly good quality and yet still relatively inexpensive?

Re: Real Time Video Source Gear recommendations for JITTER (or VST instruments)?
Thu, October 12, 2006 - 2:36 PMwow, I can't believe that noone from this tribe has responded to this thread.
doesn't anyone use live video feeds for their Jitter manipulations?
a newbie wants to know. -

Re: Real Time Video Source Gear recommendations for JITTER (or VST instruments)?
Thu, October 12, 2006 - 2:51 PMI don't, but I just got a new Phillips webcam (SPC 900NC) that does pretty darn good in low light, which could be important in day-glo situations. It also has a tripod mount, which is nice. -

Thu, October 12, 2006 - 3:31 PMwhat did that set you back, Hans?
Are you pretty happy with it?
Oh, by the way, if you feel like it, would you be into recording a
30 second shoutout to the Y2K6 live loopers?
I'm going to be playing greetings from loopers all over the country and the world in between performances.
If you have time, send me one that is 15 seconds to 30 seconds long (you know "Hi this is Hans Lindauer up in the Pacific Northwest
saying hi to all the loopers playing the y2k6 loopfest. I wish I could be there with you all" or something of that ilk) in either
.wav or .aiff file.
you can send it to rickwalker (at sign) looppool (dot sign) info
If you are too busy, know worries
I hope you are doing well in your new digs. How's it going? -

Re: Real Time Video Source Gear recommendations for JITTER (or VST instruments)?
Thu, October 12, 2006 - 4:24 PMI got mine for $100 at CompUSA. It also has Hi-Def capabilities, in case you're into that.
Oh, I forgot to mention that my computer won't boot with it plugged in, but I have a feeling that's a personal problem. You probably won't get that on a Mac, but you will need to fetch a 3rd-party driver for it: www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/...t/faqview
I'll try to get a message recorded after work. Good luck on the loopfest - I wish I could attend with my newly MAX/MSP-enabled rig. I've got a ways to go with that, however. Hopefully by this time next year, I'll have it fully working. -

Re: Real Time Video Source Gear recommendations for JITTER (or VST instruments)?
Tue, October 17, 2006 - 2:08 PMI lied about the Hi-Def capabilities. Apparently, "high definition" means something else in Philips' world. This cam only puts out VGA resolution.
