I am just starting to go through the MAX tutorials and I wanted to know if I can use the internal midi card on my laptop (cheap gateway) to hear the midi patches as I work my way through the tutorials.

I know that the MIDI card usually needs a sound bank to play back the instructions as audio.

DO I have to hook the laptop up to an Oxygen 8, for example, to hear playback?

Sorry, just getting started
